The Institute of Education at the University of Benin is an essential component of the university. Located on the Ekehuan Campus, it serves as a hub for enhancing teacher competence through specialised programme and various services. Students receive training in teaching methodology and technical skills. The Institute of Education offers a range of programmes to cater to the needs of the community and aspiring educators. The services include the followings:

  1. Bachelors in Early Childhood Education
  2. Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
  • Post-Graduate Diploma in Technical Education (PGDTED)
  1. Post-Graduate Diploma in Early Child Education (PGDECE)
  2. Masters in Early Childhood Education
  3. Phil, PhD in Early Childhood Education.

The early childhood degree programme operates in partnership with the Faculty of Education. Beyond pedagogy, the Institute of Education actively engages in research-oriented projects, publications, and educational activities. It conducts seminars and workshops for schools, aiming to enhance teacher competency, foster parental responsiveness, and assist students in developing effective study habits and time management skills.

The Benin Journal of Educational Studies (BJES) consistently publishes annually. While the practices at the Institute of Education are demanding, they yield significant rewards.
